We are whole-heartedly Christian in our faith; that is, we are a fellowship of believers that follow Christ’s life, his teachings, his words and deeds. The bible is central to our preaching and teaching with Jesus at the core of the message. We believe the gospel—the life, death, resurrection and lordship of Jesus—is “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” (Romans 1:16)
We hold to what is known as “reformed theology.” This includes our belief and understanding that God alone saves. Because our first parents (Adam and Eve) sinned, every person is totally depraved, helpless and hopeless in his or her state of sin. God alone had to make a way for our redemption. God, himself, became man (Immanuel) to be the propitiation for our sins. Thus, salvation is through Christ alone by grace alone by faith alone, according to the scriptures alone. This leads us, as Christ Community Church Charlottetown, to give glory to God alone.
At CCC, Christ is at the centre of everything we do. Christ is our focus; he’s our goal. Jesus is not a means simply to avoid Hell; he is not simply the means to a happy life; he is not simply the means to a happy family and a happy marriage. He is not simply a means to any other thing or person. Jesus is the end himself. We read our bibles to see Jesus. We spend time in prayer to be with Jesus. As a church, we gather together as his body; his presence is with us as we gather. As we teach and preach, Christ is central. And as we gather for worship, Christ is central.
The gospel is the great news that Jesus took our punishment in our place in order that we would have eternal life with the Father. Jesus lived the life we were called to live, and he died our death in our place: he was our substitution in both life and death. 1 Corinthians 15 talks of the gospel in terms of Jesus' life, death, resurrection and lordship over all.
The pouring out of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 marked the beginning of the spirit-led church, the spirit-empowered church, and the spirit-endowed community. The church was birthed on that day 2000 years ago when the Holy Spirit came in power. The Holy Spirit is now at work in us—the church—and he’s leading us while all the while pointing us to Jesus.
As disciples of Jesus, it is very clear that we cannot and should not just sit idly around. We have a Jesus-given mission. In Matthew 28, Jesus told his disciples that they were to “go and make disciples of all nations.” And in Acts 1, immediately before he ascended into heaven, Jesus told the disciples that they were to be his witnesses to the ends of the earth. Jesus also said in John 20:21, that “as the Father has sent me, so I send you…” In other words, we exist to carry on the mission started by Jesus: to make disciples of those that call Prince Edward Island home.
